Rajasthan Assembly impasse ends
By Our Special Correspondent
JAIPUR, APRIL 18. The three-week long impasse in the Rajasthan
Assembly over the alleged leak of the annual Budget ended today
with the Opposition agreeing to settle for a promise from the
Government to file an FIR in the matter.
A breakthrough came at the end of two adjournments and many noisy
scenes in the House when the Home Minister, Mr. Gulab Singh
Shaktawat, announced the decision to file an FIR on the basis of
the findings of the enquiry made by the Chief Secretary and the
Finance Secretary.
The settlement looked more like a climbdown on the part of the
Opposition which has been disrupting the normal functioning of
the House since March 29, the day the budget was presented. The
State Government, which on principle refused to accept the charge
of a budget leak, also did not entertain the demand from the
Opposition for a CBI enquiry into the issue treating it as a
breach of Official Secrets Act.
