Dhaka to launch probe
Bangladesh will soon launch an investigation into New Delhi's allegations of mutilation of the bodies of BSF personnel handed over to Indian authorities late last night. ``We will launch an intensive investigation into the allegations,'' the Foreign Secretary, Syed Moazzem Ali, said while briefing reporters on the efforts to restore peace on the border.

Hurriyat meets to discuss Centre's offer of talks
The working committee of the All-Party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) today deliberated the Centre's offer of holding talks with all groups in Jammu and Kashmir but apparently failed to arrive at any consensus. The matter would further be discussed by its general council next week.

'Returning officers alone can decide on nominations'
Only the returning officers concerned can decide on accepting or rejecting the nomination of any candidate and the Election Commission cannot interfere in the process, the Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. Mrutyunjay Sarangi, said today.

GSAT-1's orbit raised
The orbit raising operations on the GSAT-1 satellite continued on Saturday from the Master Control Facility (MCF) at Hassan. The operation was carried out at 1.50 a.m. for 29 minutes when the spacecraft was at its apogee (farthest point from the earth).

Warrant stayed
The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate today stayed the bailable arrest warrant issued against the former Chief Minister, Mr. Narayan Rane, till May 5.
