Left parties plan dharna on April 24

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, APRIL 21. Nine Left parties, on Saturday, announced that they would stage a dharna on Tuesday near the Sundarayya Vignana Kendram here, to focus public attention on the Government's failure to procure paddy from farmers during the rabi season and ensure timely assistance to powerloom weavers who are committing suicide in Sircilla.

They said the Government had separated the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh from its distribution companies in order to privatise them. They alleged that the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, "who says he is working 18 hours daily, was not finding time to visit families of weavers who committed suicide".

The statement was issued by Messrs. B.V. Raghavulu (CPI-M), S. Sudhakara Reddy (CPI), Y. Sambasiva Rao (CPI-ML New Democracy), M.V. Prasad (Janasakthi), G. Vijayakumar (Unity Initiative), M. Omkar (MCPI), K. Sridhar (SUCI) M. Murthy (Liberation) and K. Venkateswar Rao (ML).
