Fr. Sebastian appointed 'provincial'

HYDERABAD, APRIL. 21. Father Joseph Sebastian has been appointed
`provincial' of Andhra by Jesuit Superior General Fr. Peter- Hans
Kolvenbach. He will assume office at Jesuits Provincial
Headquarters, Sathyodayam, at Tarnaka here on Sunday. He will
succeed Fr. A. Santiago, who completed his six-year tenure.
Born on June 4, 1946, at Kuthalur in Tamil Nadu, he joined the
Society of Jesus in Madurai province. After his initial formation
and studies at Loyola College, Chennai, he was ordained as priest
on May 2, 1976. He completed his doctorate in Missiology and
Ecclesiology from Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
After returning from Rome, he founded `Kala Darshini', an
institute of fine arts and culture in Vijayawada, which is
considered unique apostolate in the South Asian Assistancy. At
present, he is the Rector of the Loyola College, Vijayawada.
