Sharp rise in bank deposits
MUMBAI, APRIL 21. Aggregate deposits of scheduled commercial
banks, have risen sharply by Rs. 35,366 crores (3.7 per cent) to
Rs. 993,374 crores during the fortnight ended April 6, according
to the latest statistical supplement of the Reserve Bank of
India..
Bank credit for the same fortnight was up by Rs. 19,046 crores to
Rs. 5,28,128 crores.While there was a drop in food credit by Rs.
2,159 crores to Rs. 37,832 crores, non-food credit rose by Rs.
21,205 crores to Rs. 4,90,296 crores.
Foreign currency reserves continued their upswing during the week
ended April 12 with a further rise of $33 million at $ 42,722
million,
Foreign currency assets were up by $25 million in the reporting
week at $39,987 million. While gold holdings remained unchanged
at $2,725 million, special drawing rights registered a rise of $8
million to $10 million.
Loans and advances of the Central Government were up by Rs. 8,063
crores at Rs. 24,193 crores in the week ended April 13, while
those to state governments rose by Rs. 1,204 crores to Rs. 7,334
crores.
