Babies rescued from adoption home stable

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 22. Some of them were looking confused, some of them visibly weak but nevertheless there were cheerful faces among the infants in the intensive paediatric unit of the Niloufer Hospital.

A day after being `rescued' from the adoption home, the babies are too young to comprehend the controversy over the adoption racket and the limelight they were being subjected to. However, what was heartening was the special treatment they have been getting from the hospital staff ever since they have been brought here.

The hospital at Red Hills had 17 infant girls undergoing treatment and according to the Hospital Superintendent, Dr. N.C.K. Reddy, "all of them are stable but not out of danger." The hospital had arranged a special ward for the babies and special staff have been designated to look after them, he said. Air- conditioned facility was also being provided.

Chest infections, fever, infection and dehydration were the common ailments being faced by the infants and the hospital was treating them with antibiotics, IV fluids and the likes. Dr. Reddy said that the main cause for the ill-health of the babies was `malnutrition'.
