Fourth phase of Bihar civic polls today
PATNA, APRIL 22. The Bihar administration has beefed up security
for the fourth phase of polls in 1472 panchayats spread over 85
blocks tomorrow where over a month-long lacklustre campaigning
drew to a close on Saturday.
The State Home Secretary, Mr. U.N. Panjiar, told PTI here that
all the police stations have been put on maximum alert and
patrolling has been intensified to ensure free, fair and peaceful
poll.
Around 50 people had lost their lives in a series of police
firings, explosions and clashes during the first, second, and
third phase of Panchayat elections on April 11, 15 and 19
respectively.
Mr. Panjiar said the administration had taken all preventive
measures and sealed inter-state borders with Uttar Pradesh, West
Bengal and Jharkhand. Shoot-at-sight orders would remain in force
during the polling day to prevent rigging.
