Thrithala Cong. candidate changed

By Our Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD, APRIL 22. Mr. P. Balan will replace Ms. E. Rajamma as the Congress candidate for the Thrithala Assembly constituency.

This change was necessitated on account of the local leaders' and party workers' opposition to the candidature of Ms. Rajamma, who is a member of the Palakkad municipal council

She had even filed her nomination papers. But the Congress leaders and workers, irrespective of groups, opposed her candidature. She was not allowed to start the campaign in the constituency. The matter went to the KPCC which was forced to agree to the candidature of Mr. P. Balan, a local leader and district secretary of the Building and Road Workers Congress.

The Congress circles here said that his name was recommended by the Congress mandalam committee but the high command gave the ticket to Ms. Rajamma, daughter of the former Congress Minister, the late Vella Echaran.

The district Congress leaders here said that Ms. Rajamma would withdraw her nomination and Mr. Balan would file his nomination on Monday, the last day of filing papers.
