Panja flays Trinamool's manifesto
KOLKATA, APRIL 22. The dissident Trinamool Congress leader, Mr.
Ajit Panja, today dubbed the common minimum programme (CMP) of
his party and the Congress as nothing but a ``bluff''.
The former Union Minister, who continued his tirade against the
Trinamool chief, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, told reporters that the CMP
was ``a second edition of Abol Tabol'' (a popular book of Bengali
nonsense rhymes).
Reiterating his support to the NDA, he said that there was no
mention of the much-talked-about `Bengal package' which was the
Trinamool's main plank in the 1999 Lok Sabha polls. He alleged
that he was not consulted by the party chief on the CMP.
Mr. Panja said the CMP, drafted by the State Congress president,
Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, mentioned about providing jobs. ``Mr.
Mukherjee was in the government for a long time, how many jobs
has he provided,'' he asked.
Mr. Panja, however, said if invited, he would campaign for the
party candidates.
