Problems with ISDN connections highlighted
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, APRIL 27. Problems pertaining to ISDN connections and
docket number given while registering complaints through
`Interactive Voice' system were highlighted in an open-house
meeting organised by the BSNL Chennai Telephones for the South
East area on Friday.
Representatives of an IT enabled company in Tiruvanmiyur, said
they faced technical problems. While using their ISDN line, there
were disturbances. Similarly the company also faced problems
while transmitting a data during peak hours.
Mr. Narayanan from Tiruvanmiyur, who recently returned from
abroad suggested that instead of STD code with the metered time,
the department could think of specifying the location of the STD
code in the bill, which would enable the subscribers to easily
identify the places to which the calls were made. Appreciating
the suggestion, Ms. N. Poonguzhali, General Manager, South said
there was no provision under the present billing system to
specify the area, but efforts would be made to introduce it.
Another suggestion was the distribution of the directory could be
done through courier system, as many subscribers returned home
empty handed this year. Responding to this suggestion, Mr. G.
Ravi, General Manager, Finance, said, already a similar attempt
was made in Bangalore, but due to large volume of subscribers,
the attempt was not successful.
Creating another counter to get Internet connection in South East
area was made by Mr. Harinathan of Mylapore. At present those who
wish to take the DoT Internet connections had to go to Ritherdon
Road in Kilpauk. For the residents of Adyar, Besant Nagar,
Tiruvanmiyur and beyond it would be very difficult, he said.
The Internet connection was a value added service provided by the
department and at present only one centre had been set up to help
the customers. It would be expanded depending upon the customers
patronage, said Ms. Leela Shankari, Deputy GM (SE).
Another issue raised was about the quality of instruments
provided by the department. An STD/ISD booth operator said the
department should provide better instruments particularly for
ISDN lines. With the present instruments, both the operator and
the customers were affected, he said.
Similarly the bills for the STD/ISD booths could be delivered to
the concerned owners through courier, as the operators had to
wait for a long time in the G.R.Complex to get the bill.
Difficulty in meeting the officials on all working days, delay in
getting ISDN connections, problems in effecting change of
ownership in the bill and poor response by linemen were some of
the other complaints brought to the notice of the officials on
the occasion.
Mr. Kondiah, DGM, Adyar, and Ms.Sujatha Venkateswaran, GM (TR)
participated.
