HUDA proposes three new flyovers
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, APRIL 27. The Hyderabad Urban Development Authority
(HUDA) proposes to construct three new flyovers as part of its
grandiose plan of connecting Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar and Nalgonda
Crossroads.
These new flyovers, which are likely to reduce the driving time
considerably, would be of maximum three km. length with a
carriage way of 60 mts. The funds for the project would be raised
by selling off 500 acres of land the HUDA had acquired from the
Government at Jawaharnagar.
Mrs. Lakshmi Parthasarathy, Vice-Chairperson, HUDA, told a press
conference here on Friday that the National Academy of
Construction (NAC) had been asked to prepare a feasibility report
within two months and a final decision would be taken after
deliberations with various departments based on the
recommendations of the NAC.
The proposed flyovers would come up between Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar
and Panjaguta, Nampally and Mozamjahi Market and Chaderghat
Crossroads and Malakpet Crossroads. She, however, declined to
give the cost of the project stating that the proposal was yet to
take a final shape.
She said there were lot of requests from the people for
construction of road bridges across the Musi to reduce the burden
on the main junctions. One of them includes near the Race Course
at Malakpet. Though these requests sound good, they can't be
taken up right now in view of the poor financial status of the
HUDA, she pointed out.
The urban lake treatment, she said has been brought under the
Green Hyderabad Project, funded by the Netherlands Government. An
amount of Rs. 14 crores from the total outlay of Rs. 159.70
crores had already been sanctioned. The HUDA is taking up
treatment of 15 lakes under the project and the work has already
begun.
These lakes include the big ones at Safilguda, Saroornagar,
Langer House, while the others are Pantulu Cheruvu, Kotha
Cheruvu, Mukkidi Cheruvu, Chinna Cheruvu, Pedda Cheruvu, Maddela
Cheruvu, Bathula Cheruvu, Khajaguda Cheruvu, Chinnapedda Cheruvu,
Maisamma Cheruvu and Keesara Cheruvu.
Mrs. Parthasarathy said an appraisal team of the Royal
Netherlands Embassy (RNE), consisting of experts in various
managements, would visit the city in the first week of May to
study the usage of its funds. The team would recommend for
release of the remaining grant if they were satisfied. However,
she was confident that there won't be any negative report given
the past performance of the HUDA.
A project for developing 85 lakes in and around the city was also
being prepared by the HUDA, she said adding that she was also
contemplating approaching countries like Norway and others, which
are sympathetic to environmental problems, for additional
funding.
