Hyderabad boy in a mysterious coma
BANGALORE, APRIL 27. A young Hyderabad Under-16 schools cricketer
from the Boys Town School lies in a coma at the Mallya Hospital
here since the past two days. Syed Zaheer, who came along with
the Hyderabad schools team to participate in the Parle Champions
Trophy was found unconscious at the Karnataka State Cricket
Association swimming pool and rushed to the Mallya Hospital where
he has been in a coma.
According to Mr. Raymond, the coach of the Hyderabad team, a
group of the Hyderabad boys went for a swim in the cricket
association pool. A short while later, Syed Zaheer was found in
an unconscious state. Mr. Raymond resorted to mouth-to- mouth
resuscitation and the boy began to vomit. He was immediately
rushed to the Mallya hospital for further treatment.
It was a quirk of fate that the team stayed on despite being out
of the knock-out stage of the tournament. Mr. Shankar of Procam
Sports said that all teams had been asked to stay back till the
completion of the final. The Hyderabad team thus stayed on and
even played some matches against other losing teams.
After the swimming accident, messages had been sent to the boy's
parents at Hyderabad. His father rushed down to Bangalore and
according to Mr. Raymond has been appraised of the boy's
condition. Doctors at Mallya hospital say that vital organs like
the heart and kidney are functioning and the boy is on a
ventrilator. However, chances of survival seem to be only 20 per
cent at the moment.
The organisers of the tournament and KSCA especially are sparing
no expenses in providing treatment for the youngster.
