Chhatisgarh SAP recruitment norms opposed

RAIPUR, APRIL 27. The Chhattisgarh Government's proposal to create two special battalions of the Special Armed Police (SAP) has run into rough matter once again with senior police officers involved in the recruitment objecting to the norms fixed for recruitment.

At least two officers are reported to have taken exception to the eligibility norms which would amount to 88 per cent reservation. Besides, the People's War Group has also warned the local youth against participating in the drive. They had opposed the recruitment last year also, as a result of which the drive had to be deferred and have, once again, issued warnings through leaflets.

The Police Headquarters issued advertisements about the recruitment drive in the local newspapers three weeks ago but have amended the eligibility criterion at least four times. Two Superintendents of Police, involved in the recruitment, have written letters to the Director General of Police about the tests. They have questioned the decision to reserve 88 per cent posts for the candidates of the two districts of Sarguja and Dantewada and said it was against the Constitution and judgments of the Supreme Court.

A senior police officer told TheHindu that the SPs of these two districts had written letters to the DG seeking clarifications.
