Cong. manifesto sop for Assam scribes
GUWAHATI, APRIL 27. The Congress in Assam has a sop for
journalists in its election manifesto released at the party
headquarters here today by the APCC president, Mr. Tarun Gogoi.
The party said a high-power committee would be constituted if the
congress was voted to power for going into the issues and
problems concerning scribes and non-journalist employees of the
newspaper industry.
It promised accommodation at the Assam Bhavan in New Delhi and
Kolkata besides circuit houses in the State to government-
accredited journalists, editors and sub-editors at concessional
rates.
The journalists would be provided health care in the medical
college and other government hospitals in the State at government
rate.
The encroachers of the journalists colony in Guwahati would be
evicted and land would be allotted for a new colony for them in
the city suburbs.
Housing loans from the Assam Housing Board on easy installment
for journalists would be considered, the manifesto added.
