Reprieve for Advani, 20 others in Ayodhya case
The special CBI court trying the Babri Masjid
demolition case today put on hold the trial of 21 accused in the
case, including the Union Ministers, Mr. L. K. Advani, Dr. Murli
Manohar Joshi and Ms. Uma Bharti, several Shiv Sena and Vishwa
Hindu Parishad leaders, until ``defects'' in the Uttar Pradesh
Government notification referring the case to the court were
rectified.

ULFA violence continues, 8 AGP workers killed
Suspected ULFA insurgents killed eight AGP
workers in Assam's Nalbari district as authorities today deployed
more companies of security personnel in the sensitive areas ahead
of the May 10 Assembly polls. A group of ULFA militants stormed
the AGP office at Bogorihatigaon in Dharmapur, the constituency
of the State Agriculture Minister, Mr. Chandramohan Patowary, and
opened fire.
India set for ICBM test-launch, says report
India is preparing to test-launch its first
Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM), the Surya-II or Agni-
IV, a report has said. The first test, expected in January next
year, will cover 5,000 km while a follow-on version, Surya-II,
will be tested in 2003 with a range of 12,000 km, the Defense
News said quoting a research scientist of the Defence Research
and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Report on ICBM denied
India tonight strongly denied a report of
launching its first 5000-km range inter-continental ballistic
missile (ICBM) in the next eight months with the help of Russian
cryogenic engine.
Protest against Mcdonald
BJP activists today threw cowdung at one of the
outlets of the multinational fastfood giant Mcdonald in south
Mumbai, in protest against the alleged use of beef in French
fries being sold by the restaurant.
Bismillah Khan receives Bharat Ratna
