PoK polls on July 5
By Our Special Correspondent
ISLAMABAD, MAY 4. Elections to the Legislative Assembly in the
Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) will be held on July 5 under the
supervision of the army and international observers.
Announcing this at a news conference here, the chief election
commissioner of PoK, Justice (Retd) Sher Zaman, said identity
cards were compulsory for casting vote. Candidates of 20
political parties and independents are contesting the polls.
The chief election commissioner said two million Kashmiris would
take part in the elections for 40 Legislative seats. Nominations
would be accepted for the 28 PoK seats and 12 refugees seats from
May 15 to June 1. The elections would be watched keenly in view
of the recent development related to merger of the rival factions
of the Muslim Conference.
