Aircraft wreckage yet to be removed
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, MAY 4.The wreckage of the IAF trainer aircraft that
crashed in a deserted area of the Vandalur Zoo inside the lion
safari enclosure on Thursday, killing the lone pilot could not be
removed today, as a lion continued to roam the area.
The Zoo director, Mr. Krishnakumar, said eight of the nine lions
had returned to a closed enclosure on Thursday evening. However,
one lion continued to remain near the wreckage site.
A search operation has been launched for the lion, which is
hiding inside a thick bushy area. The authorities will not take
any step to chase the animal, but will wait for it to return
probably when it is hungry. Once it returns to the enclosure, the
wreckage would be removed, he said.
Squadron Leader Sanjay Gaur (35), a senior IAF instructor with
the Tambaram Air Force base, had taken off in a Kiran Mk-1 around
9-30 a.m. and crashed about 20 minutes later.
