Develop park on remaining jail land, says MLA

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, MAY 4. The BJP MLA from Musheerabad, Dr. K. Laxman, has appealed to the Government to allot the remaining land at the Musheerabad jail for community purpose.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, he said 14 acres of land was left with the Government after the Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu's announcement allotting 17 acres to Gandhi hospital and medical college.

It would be in the fitness of things if this land was developed as a park, a playground or even for building a stadium for the National Games-2002 instead of a shopping complex since more open spaces were needed in a city where pollution was rapidly increasing, he felt. Dr. Laxman, however, welcomed Mr. Naidu's decision to seek a loan of Rs. 40 crores from HUDCO to construct buildings at the new premises.

Our Staff Reporter writes: Meanwhile, the Joint Action Committee pressing for shifting of the hospital called off its agitation. The decision to call off the agitation was taken by the committee at an emergency meeting held here on Friday.

Dr. K.V. Raghava Rao, convener, and Dr. O. Nageshwar Rao, joint convener, in a statement thanked the Chief Minister for allotting 17 acres of the jail land to the hospital.
