Kinetic to focus more on motorcycle segment
By Our Corporate Reporter
CHENNAI, MAY 4. Kinetic Engineering, a late entrant in the
motorcycle segment, plans to focus on this burgeoning area by
establishing its brand image. The company could enter this
segment only after buying the entire stake from its partner,
Honda of Japan, which has a tie-up with another Indian motorcycle
maker.
Kinetic has however concluded a technical collaboration agreement
with Honda for the latest technology and getting spare parts for
the present scooter range and for imparting training to its
technicians, said Ms. Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Joint Managing
Director at a press conference here today in connection with the
launch of its 100cc 4-stroke motorcycle, Challenger in Tamil
Nadu. The company had already sold over 10,000 motorcycles in the
select markets where the bike was introduced.
The company plans to launch six bikes (including the 100cc
vehicle) covering the economy, combination and performance
segments, including the GF series in collaboration with Hyosung
of Korea.
A separate plant for motorcycles has come up at a cost Rs. 100
crores. Kinetic expects to garner a significant market share and
sell over one lakh motorcycles in the first year.
With the entry into the motorcycle segment, Kinetic can now offer
the full range of two-wheelers that include mopeds, scooterettes,
scooters and motorcycles, Ms. Motwani said.
Detailing the technical features of Challenger, she said, the new
bike comes with a 4-stroke engine with lean burn technology for
excellent mileage, turbo induction for great pick up and large
wheel base for stability.
It offers hi-tech features such as digital gear indicator, a side
stand retraction indicator for safety, battery indicator for
convenience, powerful headlamp for safe highway driving and air
scoop for engine protection and enhanced cooling.
