Samata rethink?
NEW DELHI, MAY 19. In a sudden development, the 12-member Samata
Party tonight said it would hold an emergency meeting on Monday
of its national executive committee to reconsider its
participation in the NDA Government at the Centre.
Announcing this in a press release, the party general secretary,
Mr. Shambhu Srivastawa, however, did not give any reason for the
move.
Party sources, however, said the move comes in the wake of what
Samata Party sees as an attempt by the BJP MLAs in Manipur to
bring down the Samata Party-led People's Front Government in the
State. The party would hold the national executive meeting on May
21, the day the Manipur Chief Minister, Mr. Radhabinod Koijam, is
to seek a vote of confidence in the State Assembly.
