Tourism Week from June 3

HYDERABAD, MAY 30. The Department of Tourism is organising a
`Andhra Pradesh Tourism Week" from June 3 to 10, coinciding with
the administration of fish medicine to asthma patients for 24
hours from the morning of June 8, to attract visitors to tourism
spots in and around the city.
At a press conference, the Minister for Tourism, Mr. E. Peddi
Reddy and the Director of Tourism, Mr. Kishen Rao, said the
department would position tourist guides at railway and bus
stations, at counters captioned `Tourism at your service', to
disseminate information on places of interest and provide proper
guidance.
During the week, all the heritage buildings would be illuminated
and at the instance of the Tourism Department, hotel industry has
agreed to offer 20 per cent discount on room tariff, while
traders like those of pearls and bangles have also come forward
to give maximum discounts to visitors. They have been asked to be
courteous to the guests. An orientation programme has been
organised for autorickshaw drivers too specially, to be courteous
and not mislead the visitors.
A series of cultural programmes have been lined up at Ravindra
Bharathi, Tyagaraya Gana Sabha, Hari Hara Kala Bhavan and on
Necklace Road. At the exhibition grounds, the venue for the
administration of fish medicine, cultural programmes would be
organised on the night of June 7. A Ghazal and Qawwali festival
would be on at the Qutub Shahi Tombs from June 8 to 10.
Mr. Bathini Harinath Goud, one of the family members who had been
administering fish medicine for over 150 years, said at a meeting
of all departments convened by the Minister for Home, Mr. T.
Devender Goud, recently, it was decided to fix the price of
Murrel fish at Rs.6 each.
He said the State Government had allotted five acres at Kattedan,
for setting up a permanent venue, raise fish and herbs and
conduct research. Work could begin once the piece of land is
handed over to the family.
Stating that some greedy persons were offering fake fish
medicine, he wanted the police to take action against them. He
also appealed to the people to be wary of them.
