Rise in AP Transco revenue collection
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, MAY 30. Having obtained the approval of the AP
Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC), the AP Transco is
investing Rs.1,415 crores during 2001-2002, towards refurbishment
of Transmission and Distribution network for supplying quality
and reliable power, particularly to backward areas.
This was disclosed during a presentation to the Governor, Dr. C.
Rangarajan, here on Wednesday. According to the AP Transco
officials, there has been progressive increase in investment
towards improving T and D sector, during the last three years.
The revenue has improved from Rs.4,800 crores in 1999-2000 to
Rs.5,840 crores in 2000-2001, an increase of Rs.1,040 crores, by
22 per cent. While the tariff hike accounted for 14.5 per cent,
the remaining eight per cent was owing to sales. The Transmission
and Distribution losses were brought down to 33.9 per cent last
year and ambitious plans have been formulated to cut them down to
28 per cent by the end of the current financial year.
The Governor appreciated the `sustained and untiring' efforts in
`achieving overall improvement in revenue realisation, quality
and reliable power supply and reducing commercial losses by
arresting theft/pilferage of energy'. The revenue collection,
particularly during the last six months, had impressed him, the
officials said.
Mr. P. Ramakanth Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of AP
Transco and other officials, apprised the Governor about the
various aspects of power sector, particularly effective
implementation of reforms.
