Changes in traffic flow pattern at airport

By T. S. Shankar

CHENNAI, MAY 31. The custodian of the international airports of the country, the International Airports Division of the Airports Authority of India (IAD-AAI), currently engaged in modifying the terminal building, is also taking steps to ensure the smooth flow of vehicular traffic into and out of the Chennai airport.

Mr. Sudhir Kumar, Chennai Airport Director, detailing the changes of the traffic flow pattern that would be implemented in about a month's time, said the AAI was doing its best to carry out modifications within the constraints to make the gateway as ``passenger-friendly'' as possible.

``Comfortable slumberette seats'' have been added at security hold areas of the two terminal buildings, passenger concourse areas, he said, and added that efforts were on to add a children's amusement parlour, a mini-refreshment centre along with a beer pub at the Anna International Terminal's atrium area.

The IAD-AAI, he said, was also in the process of entering into an agreement with three star hotels on the GST Road leading to the airport for providing, at the touch of a button by installing an information kiosk, details of departures and arrivals of international flights.
