BJP growing in rural areas: Kirubanidhi
By Our Staff Reporter
MAMALLAPURAM, JUNE 2. The president of the State unit of the BJP,
Dr. S. Kirubanidhi, today termed `childish' the decision of the
Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalitha, to discontinue the welfare
schemes that had been initiated by the DMK government.
Instead of implementing her agenda for the people, she was
indulging in victimisation, he told reporters here. Mr.
Kirubanidhi had come to preside over a two-day State working
committee of the party to discuss the post-election scenario.
The BJP had been growing in rural areas, he said adding that
though the party failed to win more number of seats, it was able
to garner more votes than before.
When pointed out that the BJP had done little to retain the PMK
and MDMK in the NDA, Dr. Kirubanidhi said they decided to leave
the coalition on their own.
On reports about the likelihood of BJP joining hands with the
AIADMK, he said such reports were being made deliberately.
Over 150 delegates, including Mr. Pon Radhakrishnan, Union
Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. L. Ganesan,
State general secretary, and the four MLAs-Mr. K. N. Lakshmanan,
Mr. H. Raja, Mr. Jagaveerapandian and Mr. Muralidharan-are
attending the meeting.
