Nephro-urology centre for Victoria Hospital
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, JUNE 2. A nephro-urology institute will be set up in
the Victoria Hospital here with the help of grant-in-aid from the
Government of Finlan, Ms. Nafees Fazal, Minister of State for
Medical Education, said here on Saturday.
Inaugurating the computerisation facility at the hospital as part
of its centenary celebrations, Ms. Fazal said a Tele Cobalt-60
machine for treating cancer patients, acquired from Germany,
would be installed in the hospital. This step would lessen the
burden of the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology here which
had been unable to cope with the large number of cancer-related
cases. The facility would be introduced within three months, she
said.
Mr. B.V. Ganesh, Corporator, Chamarajpet, requested the State
Government to provide land outside the hospital to construct a
lavatory. The environment outside the hospital was unhygienic.
The land belonged to the Government and not to the Bangalore
Mahanagara Palike, he said.
Dr. R. Chandrashekhara, Superintendent, Victoria Hospital, said
the hospital had only 200 nurses although the requirement was
750. He requested the State Government to look into the matter.
Replying to this, Ms. Fazal said since the hospital met the
required ratio of one nurse for every three patients, there was
no need for more nurses.
Earlier, Dr. Chandrashekhara told presspersons that seven
computers had been installed in the hospital and the out-patient
registration, casualty, medical records, main stores, office and
laboratory had been computerised as part of the first phase of
the programme. In the second phase, all the 23 departments would
be computerised in the next four months.
A central blood collection centre had been opened where all blood
samples collected from laboratories in different departments
would be kept.
He said the Centre had been giving a fund Rs. six crores for the
Tele Cobalt-60 equipment for treating cancer patients. The
Finland Government would give grant-in-aid to set up CT scan and
MRI facilities in the hospital. A ``Puva'' Therapy Unit for
treating skin diseases had been started.
An auto-analyser and echo-cardiography would be installed soon
and one VIP ward and casualty and minor operation theatre would
be opened in 15 days, he said.
A ``dharmashala'', which could accommodate 80 people, was ready,
he added.
