Cong. demands white paper on Govt. spending

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JUNE 2. Mr. G. Muddu Krishnama Naidu, spokesman of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, on Saturday demanded a white paper on the State's income during the last six years and the way it is being spent.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Naidu said his information was that the State's income during the last six years was Rs. 1,20,000 crores. Yet the Government had not taken up a single irrigation project nor a new power project. It meant most of the income has gone into unproductive schemes or there was lot of wasteful expenditure.

If the Government had used the resources judiciously, there would have been lot of development in the backward areas, leaving no scope for unrest being now seen in Telangana. But for allotting token amounts in the Budget, no effort was made to take up projects like Sriramsagar flood flow canal, Srisailam Left Bank Canal, Srisamsagar stage two, Nettampadu and Kalwakurthi Lift Irrigation schemes in Telangana and Galeru Nagari, Hundri Neeva, Telugu Ganga and Velugonda reservoir projects in Rayalaseema.

Blaming the Chandrababu Naidu Government's faulty policies and neglect of backward areas, he wanted immediate implementation of a provision in the Gentlemen Agreement for a deputy Chief Minister's post.
