Setback to probe into Nepal massacre
Sensing popular sentiment, the CPN (UML), main
Opposition Communist party, today distanced itself from Nepal's
embattled royalty by refusing to participate in an investigation
into Friday's massacre in the Narayanhiti Palace.
No 'foul play'
Notwithstanding the fanciful theories being
peddled in sections of the print and electronic media in this
country on what happened in Nepal on the fateful night of June 1,
the various Indian security agencies have not found any evidence
so far that makes them doubt the original explanation that the
then Crown Prince, Dipendra, had triggered the regicide.
I'm flexible: Musharraf
For the second time since the Prime Minister,
Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, extended an invitation to the Pakistan
Chief Executive, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, for peace talks, the
military ruler has said that he would go to India with a
``flexible and an open mind'' on Kashmir.
Russia gets India on board for NMD debate
In line with Moscow's new policy of engaging
India in the ongoing debate on the controversial U.S. missile
defence programme, an Indo-Russian working group on strategic
stability will meet in Moscow later this month.
'Ban T.N. extremist outfits'
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, Ms.
Jayalalitha, today urged the Centre to immediately ban certain
extremist, secessionist and communal organisations operating in
the State such as the Al- Umma, the Jihad Committee, the TNLA and
the TNRT.
All help to Nepal: India
India has conveyed to Nepal its readiness to
help the Himalayan kingdom in any manner to tide over the
turbulent phase in the wake of the killings of the King, Queen
and other royal family members, the Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K.
Advani said here today.
Breakthrough in defence ties with Russia
India and Russia have achieved a qualitative
breakthrough in defence cooperation during the current visit of
the Defence and External Affairs Minister, Mr. Jaswant Singh.
Youth killed in firing
Angry members of a community fought a pitched
battle with the police for more than seven hours following the
death of a youth in alleged police firing in old Lucknow early
today. Irate groups indulged in stone-throwing and targeted
vehicles.
