50,000 sites to be distributed this year
By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, JUNE 8. About 50,000 sites will be distributed by the
urban development authorities in the State this year, according
to a target fixed by the Minister for Urban Development, Mr. B.B.
Chimmanna Katti.
He told presspersons who met him here on Friday that the
Government would help some of the urban development authorities
which had no financial resources of their own, by securing a loan
of Rs. 200 crores from the Housing and Urban Development
Corporation. The funds would be used to acquire land needed for
formation of layouts after carrying out a survey of the demand
for sites, he said.
Mr. Chimmanna Katti said the Bangalore Development Authority had
been asked to form 14,300 sites in localities such as R. T.Nagar,
Lalithadri Nagar, S. Gopalagowda Nagar, Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar
and Vidyanagar.
Targets had been set for urban development authorities in
Gulbarga (1078 sites in ``Filter Bed fourth and fifth phases),
Shimoga (1,600 sites at Thavarachetnahalli), Bellary (1,839 sites
at Sanganakallu)), Mangalore (392 sites at Padavu and Kudupu),
and Bidar (344 sites at Chidri), he added.
He said the Government was framing common cadre and recruitment
rules for all the 27 urban development authorities within a
month. The rules, while entitling the 2,000 officials to get some
of the benefits given to government employees, would also provide
for their transfer from one authority to another, he added.
Referring to the proposal to introduce the scheme for self-
assessment of property tax all over the State, he said
comprehensive amendments would be brought to the relevant laws
during the next session of the legislature. The amendments would
also cover transfer of officials from one corporation to another,
the minister added.
