Himachal should harness IT and BT: Advani
By Our Staff Correspondent
SHIMLA, JUNE 9. The Union Home Minister, Mr. L. K. Advani, who
was here for the valedictory function of an IT and BT exhibition
and business summit organised by Wisitex and the Himachal Pradesh
government, has congratulated the State for getting its policies
on Information Technology and Bio-Technology approved.Addressing
a gathering of professionals in both the fields, Mr. Advani
stressed the need for more result-oriented seminars and
translations of the decisions into action.
Calling IT and BT as revolutionary transformative powers, he said
these technologies have emerged as the greatest instruments of
wealth creation.
He said the NDA government at the Centre has set up a national
task force on IT, immediately after assuming office in 1998 and a
blue- print was prepared for India's progress in software
development, exports, manpower training, hardware design and
manufacturing. India had a huge potential for information
technology and the Government had created a separate ministry for
it, he added. Mr. Advani said India has a global reputation of a
nation on the move in the frontier areas of science and
technology and Shimla now should come up as the newest centre for
IT development. He cited three advantages for Himachal in its
foray in IT and BT and they are, tourism potential, for
attracting foreign and domestic tourists.
