Fishermen's Forum plea

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JUNE 15. The National Fishermen's Forum has requested an audience with General Pervez Musharraf, Chief Executive of Pakistan, during his visit to India to discuss the release of 50 Indian fishermen in Pakistani jails, according to Fr. Thomas Kocherry.

Fr. Kocherry told a press conference here today that the forum was dissatisfied with the Union Government's decision to give licences to Taiwanese fishing vessels. He said the Centre had failed to study the non-implementation of the Murari Committee recommendations which specified that no foreign fishing ship be allowed in Indian waters.
