Sudhagaran bail plea adjourned

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JUNE 15. The bail application by the Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa's `disowned foster son', Mr. V.N. Sudhagaran, who was arrested on June 13 for allegedly attempting to murder and possessing heroin, was today adjourned to June 19 by Mr. Bhaskar, II Additional Sessions Judge.

Two other separate petitions seeking bail and anticipatory bail for two each of the four co-accused were posted for Monday.

The complainant, Mr. Gopu Sridhar, alleged that Mr. Sudhagaran, along with some others, had threatened him with a revolver and caused knife injuries demanding the return of his money on Tuesday last.

Opposing Mr. Sudhagaran's bail petition, the prosecution submitted that the investigation was at a preliminary stage, and if enlarged on bail now, he could tamper with, remove or destroy evidence.

Noting that the accused had been booked under the NDPS Act also and that the investigation was still pending, the prosecution expressed the apprehension that he might abscond.

Meanwhile, the defence counsel of the two of the co- accused - Messrs Vivekanandan and Mayenuddin - sought adjournment till Monday, on their being informed that a new case had been registered against them for allegedly threatening the wife of Mr. Gopu Sridhar. He wanted to study the details of the case. The adjournment was granted.

The anticipatory bail petition filed on behalf of the remaining two co-accused - Messrs P.K. Md. Salauddin and S.P. Bhasgaran - was also posted for Monday.
