DMK functionary held for 'murder plot'

CHENNAI, JUNE 15. A DMK functionary has been arrested on charges
of plotting to murder another party member following a feud over
administration of a temple.
Police identified the arrested person as Lakshimpathy (52) of
Lakshmiamman Koil Street in Perambur, a former DMK general
council member.
According to police, an ex-convict Bhagyaraj was arrested on
charges of attempting twice to murder another DMK functionary
Palani (46) of Perambur. During the first attempt, he attacked
Palani with knives when the latter was going on a motorcycle with
his wife. In the second attempt, he entered Palani's house and
attacked him. On both occasions, Palani escaped with injuries.
A police team arrested Bhagyaraj in connection with the murder.
The DCP (Anna Nagar), Mr. Seshasai, said that Bhagyaraj
reportedly confessed to the police that he had indulged in the
crime on the instructions of Mr. Lakshmipathy. Moreover, as per
the deal, he was to be paid Rs. one lakh if he killed Palani. He
was given an advance amount of Rs. 10,000.
Based on this statement, police arrested Lakshimpathy.
