5 held for holding foreigner hostage
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, JUNE 15. Five persons were arrested on charges of
holding a foreign national as hostage at T.Nagar and torturing
him, allegedly to return their money.
According to police, a Canadian national, Mr. Praveen Khurana,
was running a software consultancy firm with branches in
different cities in the country including Chennai.
Four persons from Chennai had apparently paid him about Rs.nine
lakhs to get jobs abroad. However, there was some delay in this.
On learning that Mr. Khurana was in the city, they allegedly
kidnapped him, kept him hostage and wanted him to sign some
documents. The victim managed to inform his wife in Canada
telephonically and she in turn alerted the police following which
he was rescued.
