BU nodal agency for World Values Survey research
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, JUNE 15. The Bangalore University (BU) has been
chosen as the nodal Indian agency for a World Values Survey
Research project.
According to the BU Vice-Chancellor, Dr. K.Siddappa, the study
involves academies and researchers from 18 universities across
the country. "Hence it is an honour to be chosen," he told
presspersons here on Friday.
Recently the BU had signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU)
with the Institution of Social Research, University of Michigan
in the U.S., to signify BU's participation in the World Values
Survey. Dr. Siddappa had signed on behalf of the BU while he was
in the U.S. from May 6 to 31. He said he had also initiated a
dialogue with Michigan University for "further collaborations on
other relevant research projects".
"The survey is a world-wide investigation of socio-cultural and
political changes and man's response to such changes. The study
encompasses 65 countries representing over 80 per cent of the
world's population," Dr. Siddappa said.
The study (in India) will look at the above aspect and relate it
to social and political values in other societies.
Collaborations
During this trip, the BU VC visited leading American universities
and insitutions for collaborations in the emerging areas of
Science and Technology.
For instance, an MoU was signed with the University of Tuskegee,
Alabama for co-ordination in Agricultural Biotechnology and
Genetic Engineering, Bio-control of Pests and Wastes, and Insect
Biotechnology. The MoU enabled the two universities to work on
the application of these sciences and to train students in these
fields.
According to a BU release issued on the occasion, Dr. Siddappa
also visited the University of California in San Diego which
leads research in Biotechnology and Condensed Matter Physics. He
also went to the University of Southern California in Los
Angeles.
