Rupee extends gains
MUMBAI, JUNE 15. The rupee extended overnight gains against the
U.S. currency and ended sharply higher today, supported by
renewed exporter dollar sales and unwinding of long positions by
banks in generally quiet and range-bound trading at the inter-
bank foreign exchange market.
The Indian unit closed at 46.9950/47.0050 a dollar, a good three
paise appreciation from Thursday's finish of 47.0250/0350 after
opening on a positive note at 47.0175/0250.
The rupee gained marginally by half paisa yesterday and halted an
earlier three-day string of losses, backed by dollar supplies by
exporters and foreign funds.
