Of dance and form
P. SOLOMON DHANRAJ
The postal department issued a set of six multi-coloured stamps
on October 25, 1975, representing six classical dances forms.
The 25p. stamp features a graceful posture in Bharatanatyam,
developed in South India. The 50p. stamp shows a dedicate pose in
Odissi, a ritual dance from Orissa. Kathak, the court dance for
the Nawab of North India, is pictured on the 75p. stamp. The Re 1
stamp depicts Kathakali, the dance drama of Kerala. The Rs.1.50
stamp displays a pleasing body-movement in Kuchipudi of Andhra.
And the Rs. 2 stamp illustrates a lyrical dance form, Manipuri,
from the North East.
All stamps are beautifully printed , showing the traditional
costumes of each dance.
