MUMBAI, JUNE 16. Four Mumbai-based directors of Zap Infotech, a
computer academy, were arrested at Goregaon in north-west Mumbai
on Friday for allegedly duping several students who had enrolled
for various short and long-term computer courses at the academy.
Police said today that all 13 centres of Zap Infotech had shut
down in the last three days without any prior notice to students
who had invested between Rs. 17,000 and Rs. 25,000 for training
courses. The accused - Praveen Sonalkar, Hozefa Vohra, Mohanlal
Mehta and Tanvir Zakir - were arrested under Sections 420, 406
for cheating and criminal breach of trust and remanded to police
custody till June 21.
The main office of the institute was sealed following an FIR
filed by a student. Earlier, the New Delhi Police had arrested
Mohsin Rupani, an official of Zap Computers and, brother-in-law
of one of the owners, Arif Mithani, in Goregaon on June 13.
Zap Computers, which was recently floated in a big way with more
than 200 branches across the country, is alleged to have
collected crores of rupees.
Zap and its sister concern - Wintech - had promised several
computer courses and charged hefty sums from students.
