F-1 legend Stewart knighted

LONDON, JUNE 16: F-1 legend, Jackie Stewart, has been knighted
for his achievements in the world of motor racing in the Queen's
Birthday honours list.
``This is a very proud moment for me,'' said Stewart and added,
``this has to mean more than my first win, winning a world
championship or my victory as a team owner.''
Stewart tops the sports honours personalities and in his
illustrious career, he had 27 Grand Prix victories to his credit.
The others, from the footballing world was former England
captain, Alan Shearer, who was awarded the OBE (Order of the
British Empire), along with the BBC football commentator, John
Motson.
John Charles, once well-known as the best centre-half as well as
the best centre-forward, was awarded the CBE.
Former tennis player, Christine Janes was named an MBE for her
services to tennis. Christine was known as Christine Truman, when
she became the youngest female winner of the French singles - now
known as the French Open - in 1959, when she was aged 18. Since
her retirement in 1975, Truman has become a successful member of
BBC Radio's tennis commentators team.
