We welcome India's thinking differently: U.S.
The U.S. President, Mr. George Bush, and his
advisers are clearly pleased with the Indian Government's
apparent willingness to listen with an open mind to his proposals
on a new strategic framework for international security, a
response that contrasts with the scepticism and uncertainty that
marks a good part of the European reaction.
Summit in Agra: Musharraf coming on July 14
Even as it announced a very generous welcome
to the Chief Executive of Pakistan, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, India
today reaffirmed the determination to defend its traditional
position on Jammu and Kashmir.
PoK will figure in summit: PM
The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee,
today said the issue of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) would
figure during his coming summit talks with Pakistan's military
ruler, Gen. Pervez Musharraf. ``A third of Kashmir is with them
and it is an indivisible part of our country,'' he told a press
conference before leaving for New Delhi after a knee surgery
here. ``Other related issues'' too would figure at the meeting.
Sanctions must go: Sattar
Pakistan's Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul
Sattar, has warned that if the United States did not get rid of
sanctions, it would not only risk the erosion of conventional
capability leading to an increase in reliance on strategic
deterrence but also prolong poverty and hardship leading to
several undesirable trends including extremism.
Russia warns U.S.
The Russian President, Mr. Vladimir Putin, has
said Moscow would upgrade its strategic nuclear arsenal with
multiple warheads if the U.S. went ahead with its planned nuclear
missile shield, sparking a nuclear arms race, New York Times said
today.
Pak. in dilemma over Vajpayee's assertion
The military Government in Pakistan appears to
be in a dilemma over the categorical assertion made by the Prime
Minister, Mr. A.B. Vajpayee, on Kashmir.
'Centre watching situation'
The Centre today continued to keep a close
``watch'' on the situation in Manipur where large-scale violence
has engulfed Imphal in protest against the extension of ceasefire
with the NSCN(I-M) to all Naga-inhabited areas in the North-East.

Sachin's brother attacked
