'Our cry for help went in vain'

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JUNE 19. ``I was fast asleep when I heard a dog barking. I woke up to see eight persons armed with sticks and bars near a tractor in my farm house. Before realising what it was, the gang started breaking the door of my house,'' said Mr. Hutchahanume Gowda, owner of the farmhouse, which was burgled on Monday night.

Mr. Gowda said he and his family had shifted to the farmhouse a few months ago from their house at Hanumanthegowdana Palya, about five km. from Nelamangala.

Mr. Gowda said the gang had broken three wooden doors and damaged a door which had iron grills. Since the farmhouse was away from the village, their screams for help could not be heard by the villagers.

``We shouted for help for more than 20 minutes. But no help was forthcoming,'' he said. Though he had a gun, he was unable to open fire at the gang because of fear.

Mr. Gowda, his wife and daughter were injured in the attack. However, his son, managed to escape. They were admitted to hospital along with his tenant and her two children who were also injured in the attack. Mr. Gowda said the attack was well planned.

He said though he repeatedly told the gang members that he was not the owner of the farmhouse, they assaulted him and his family forcing them to part with cash and other valuables. After tying them up, they entered the outhouse where the tenants were living. The gang assaulted them and locked them up before leaving the farmhouse.

The villagers said it was the first time that such an incident had occurred at Hanumanthegowana Palya .
