Welcome ceasefire
Sir, - The question of Greater or Lesser Nagalim does not arise
as the National Socialist Council of Nagaland had been operating
in all the Naga inhabited areas of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam and
Arunachal Pradesh since its inception. Let the politicians not
create unnecessary problems in the region. Instead every right
thinking citizen should welcome and support the steps taken by
the Central Government.
Nepuni Tennyson,
New Delhi
Sir, - Subsequent to the recent Naga ceasefire agreement what we
have witnessed in Manipur and what may be in store for the other
neighbouring States are highly regrettable. Even more regrettable
is the kind of passions being stoked by irresponsible individuals
and political parties who are expected to stand solidly behind
the peace initiative. Instead, they incite mob fury. In this
context, one must notice the use of the term ``territorial
integrity of the State'' by responsible politicians. Using this
term in the context of the States within India is ignorance, if
not mischievous. The Constitution provides for re- organisation
of States by passing resolutions in State Assemblies and
Parliament.
C.S. Kamesh,
Chennai
