Film sparks violence
By Our Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL, JUNE 19. Protesting against the screening of the newly-
released film ``Gadar - A Love Story'' dating back to the
Partition days of 1947, an agitated mob went on rampage here
today hurling petrol bombs and setting several two-wheelers
parked at a city cinema hall on fire. The mob attacked the
policemen on duty injuring some of them.
It is learnt that an office-bearer of the National Students'
Union of India (NSUI) had yesterday given a memorandum to the
district authorities objecting to some scenes demanding that
screening of the film be stopped immediately. In an earlier show,
certain remarks by a section of the audience had sparked tension
inside the cinema hall but the situation was brought under
control after police intervention.
Today's incident was sparked soon after the 2 p.m. show had begun
when a huge mob from a minority community descended at Lily
Talkies in the Jehangirabad area and went on the rampage hurling
stones and burning vehicles parked inside the talkies.
