A delight for the discerning
KHADI GRAMODYOG Bhavan's `All India Handicrafts Sale' has become
a much-looked forward to event in the craft shopper's calendar.
From fragrant agarbattis made by KVIC units to upmarket rosewood
dining table sets and small handcrafted artefacts, the exhibition
has something for everyone. There are shiny whitemetal Gods and
Goddesses from Rajasthan, a great variety of curved furniture
from Saharanpur and Kashmir, gun metal artefacts from Hyderabad,
papier mache icons from Tamil Nadu, brassware and bronze items
and much else.
The Handicrafts fair offers copper `puja' articles from Varanasi,
bronze items and oil lamps for Tamil Nadu, and some exquisitely
carved sandalwood pieces from Mysore. For the middle range
shopper there is a host of craft artefacts: oxidised white metal
articles from Jaipur, gun metal artefacts both big and small, and
well crafted boxes and trays from Saharanpur and Kashmir.
Kashmir's beautiful walnut furniture pieces, along with
Saharanpur's screens and Mysore's rosewood inlay furniture items
are a big draw at Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan's ``All India
Handicrafts Sale''. The furniture section is well stocked and
offers a large variety of beautifully crafted sofa sets, settees,
occasional tables, side boards, screens, dining table sets and so
on.
And for those who like shiny images and icons, there is a range
to choose from - large-sized white metal Natarajas, Krishnas,
Devis, Lakshmis, and so on.
The exhibition-cum-sale which is on at Sri Sankara Hall, TTK
Road, concludes on June 24.
