The week ahead

MERCURY, the planet of communications, turns direct on June 28 at 5:45 am GMT. Mercury has been retrograde in Gemini since June 4. During the three-week retrograde period, normal communications slowed and you had a chance to review, renew, rethink and re- evaluate. Now you are ready to emerge into a new communications period in three stages. The first stage is called the Mercury Station, in which the planet appears to be standing still from the perspective of the Earth. The station lasts from June 24 to July 2. During this time, you will have the opportunity to rectify errors that occurred during the retrograde. The second stage begins when Mercury begins to move at its regular speed. This period lasts from July 3 to July 12. This is the time to re- orient your thinking from the past to the future. The final stage begins on July 13, when Mercury overtakes the initial point of its retrograde journey. You will feel completely free to begin again and create anew.

Queries Answered

What is the rule of Latitude and Longitude in a horoscope?

S. Muthukrishnan, Chennai-20

Longitude and Latitude data enable us to locate a place in the grid. The 360 degrees of Longitude, divided into 180 East and 180 West, start with 0 at Greenwich in England. They cover the 24 hours of the earth's rotation. When Greenwich has midnight, the time at a place of Longitude 30 degrees East will be 2 a.m.; the time at a place of Longitude 30 degrees West will be 10 p.m. (of the previous day). Longitudes help for fixing the time of birth.

The Latitude helps us to fix the Lagna. Latitudes are reckoned from the Equator given value 0, and extend on either side of it, 90 degrees to the North Pole, and 90 degrees to the South Pole. The duration of each of the Rasis varies with Latitude.

Data of Longitude and Latitude enable us to cast a horoscope with accuracy.
