CET seat selection process begins

BANGALORE, JUNE 29. The seat selection process of the Common Entrance Test 2001 in respect of medical and dental seats began here on Friday.

The total number of medical seats available is 2,300, out of which 1,240 are general merit seats. Under the payment seats, 431 are for Karnataka candidates, while there are 222 non-Karnataka seats. There are 298 seats under NRI quota.

The total intake for dental course is 1,497 out of which 901 are free (merit) seats, 401 come under payment seats (Karnataka) category and 195 seats under payment seats (non-Karnataka). There are 238 seats under NRI quota.

Engineering

Dr. G.Parameshwar, Minister of State for Higher Education, announced that the seat matrix for engineering courses would be announced in two or three days.

He said the Government had reserved five per cent of the total seats for Kannada-medium students and this was already being implemented.

There would be 6,000 more seats in Information Technology oriented courses this year, he added.

Dr. Parameshwar denied that the Union Government had cancelled accreditation to 10 medical colleges in the State and said that these were only rumours.

Ms. Nafees Fazal, Minister of State for Medical Education, said that the Medical Council of India had not recognised three medical colleges in the State: Coorg College, Virajpet, NSVK, Bangalore, and Maratha Mandal College, Belgaum.

The Medical Council had issued instructions not to admit students to the Khwaja Bande Nawaz Medical College in Gulbarga for 2001- 2002 and the CET Cell would not allot seats to students in this college, she added.

The following is the CET seat availability for medical and dental seats on Saturday.

Medical seats: 1G-29, 1K-03, 1R-07, 2AG-130, 2AK-09, 2AR-28, 2BG- 33, 2BK-03, 2BR-07, 3AG-16, 3AK-03, 3AR-05, 3BG-36, 3BK-03, 3BH- 07, GM-37, GMK-21, GMR-46, SCK-08, SCR-29, SCG-26, STK-02, STR- 06. Total 1,040 seats.

Dental: 1G-29, 1K-02, 1R-05, 2AG-108, 2AK-07, 2AR-20, 2BG-28, 2BK-02, 2BR-06, 3AG-29, 3AK-02, 3AR-06, 3BG-36, 3BK-02, 3BH-07, GM-354, GMK-23, GMR-67, SCK-07, SCR-20, SCG-22, STK-01, STR-04. Total 1,296 seats.
