20 doctors to get B.C. Roy award

NEW DELHI, JUNE 30. Twenty doctors will be conferred the Dr. B.C.Roy awards, given by the Medical Council of India, for the year 2000.

Besides Dr. G. Venkataswamy and Dr. Shashanka Mohan Bose, 18 others have been chosen for the awards in different categories.

The Eminent Medical Teacher award will be given to Dr. Farokh Erach Udwadia (Mumbai), Dr. Rakesh Tandon (New Delhi), Dr. K. Ananda Kannan (Chennai), Dr. K. M. Padhi (Berhampur), and Dr. K. K. Talwar (New Delhi).

The award for best talents in encouraging the development of specialities in different branches of medicine will be conferred on Dr. Abraham G. Thomas (Ludhiana), Dr. D. G. Benakappa (Bangalore), Dr. Ashok Panagaria (Jaipur), Dr. Mahesh R. Desai (Gujarat) and Dr. Arabinda Narayan Chowdhry (Kolkata).

For outstanding service in the field of socio-medical relief, Dr. Govind Narain Malaviya (Agra), Dr. S. Arulraj (New Delhi), Dr. Narendra Prasad (Patna), Dr. Nitin Suman Chandra Vohra (Gujarat) and Dr. Manotosh Panja (Kolkata) will be awarded.

The Hari Om Ashram Alembic Research award will go to Dr. D. N. Rao (AIIMS, New Delhi) for basic research in medical sciences; Dr. Digambar Behera (Chandigarh) for clinical research; and Dr. S. K. Aggarwal (New Delhi) for operational research.
