BHEL commissions central Asian project
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, JUNE 30. Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has
successfully commissioned the first ever power project in the
Central Asian region. The 71 MW Mingechaur hydel power plant in
Azerbaijan has been completed in a record 16 months, according to
the company.
Funded by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development
(EBRD), this was BHEL's first ever export order from a CIS
country. The contract valued at Rs. 21 crores was placed on the
company by the Azerenerji Stock Company.
The scope of work envisaged design, manufacture, supply, erection
and commissioning of a hydel generator of 71 MW capacity with
state-of-the-art controls and instrumentation (C&I) and ancillary
equipment.
The hydel generator was manufactured and supplied by BHEL's
Bhopal plant while the company's electronics division in
Bangalore supplied the C&I system for the project.
