Arrest unconstitutional, says Trinamool
KOLKATA, JULY 1. The Trinamool Congress today described as
``unconstitutional'' the arrest of the DMK president, Mr. M.
Karunanidhi, and said it would ``fully support'' any decision of
the Vajpayee Government in this regard.
``The procedure of arrest was not only inhuman in nature, but
also appears to be undemocratic and unconstitutional'' the party
chief whip in Lok Sabha, Mr. Sudip Bandopadhyay, said in a letter
to the NDA convenor, Mr. George Fernandes.
Mr. Bandopadhyay said he had written the letter under the
directive of the party chief, Ms. Mamata Banerjee, to convey its
sentiments in relation to Mr. Karunanidhi's arrest.
Expressing shock at the arrest of the Union Ministers, Mr.
Murasoli Maran and Mr. T.R. Baalu, he said the Trinamool also
condemned the physical assault on them.
All political parties would protest against such inhuman action,
Mr. Bandopadhyay said.
