Indian woman sentenced in U.S.

NEW YORK, JULY 1. A woman who arranged kidnapping of her own son to get $200,000 from her husband to pay debts amounting $100,000 back in India has been sentenced to four years imprisonment under a plea bargain. Ms. Rajvinder Kaur, 42, living with her husband and son at Calabasas in California would start serving her term tomorrow.

Ms. Kaur was found to have conspired with three employees working at her husband's restaurant. On the night of August 8 last, two masked men broke into their home, tied up Ms. Kaur and her husband Mr. Teja Singh and kidnapped their son, Parmuir. Later, they called to demand $200,000 ransom to release the child. The kidnappers made calls from their cell phones and police was able to trace the numbers.
