Vuyyuru MLA dead

VIJAYAWADA, JULY 1. Mr. Anne Babu Rao, Vuyyuru MLA, suffering
from protracted heart ailment, died in a corporate hospital in
Hyderabad this morning. He was 63. Mr. Babu Rao suffered a heart
attack in Vuyyuru two months ago. He was air-lifted to Hyderabad
for treatment.
Mr. Babu Rao was elected thrice from Vuyyuru to the Assembly in
1984, 1994 and 1999. A qualified electrical engineer, he resigned
his job to return to his village. He bought a rice mill and
settled down there. He entered public life in 1979 when he was
elected sarpanch of Vuyyuru gram panchayat. He joined the Telugu
Desam Party in 1984 and was elected to the Assembly the same
year. In 1989 he lost the election to the Congress candidate, Mr.
Vangaveeti Chalapati Rao, by about 5,000 votes.
He was elected to the Assembly in 1994 by a majority of over
12,000 votes and again in 1999.
A soft-spoken and non-controversial leader, Mr. Babu Rao was
nominated chairman of the Durga-Malleswara Swamivarla
Devasthanams here and held the post for about 18 months.
The MLA's body has been brought to Vuyyuru for cremation on
Monday. The Agriculture Minister, Mr. Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao,
paid his last respects in the evening.
The Chief Minister, Mr. N.Chandrababu Naidu, expressed his grief
and conveyed his heart-felt condolences to the bereaved family.
